Not sure if I'm buying the "finish" story - I'm believing it's more to get away from Bond.
Nov. 26 is a Wednesday and the day before the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend in the US. http://www.variety.com/article/VR111799126...yid=13&cs=1 QUOTE Fox moves 'Australia' release back Kidman, Jackman film will come out Nov. 26 By MICHAELA BOLAND SYDNEY - Fox is shifting its big-ticket outback romance "Australia" to Nov. 26. "Australia" was slated to release Stateside Nov. 14, about 48-hours after its November 13 world preem Down Under, but now the Oz date will also shift to tally with the U.S. Recently, Warner Bros. moved its next "Harry Potter" movie from Nov. 21 to next summer. Saga of an English woman (Nicole Kidman) who comes to remote Australia and falls for a rugged cattle drover (Hugh Jackman) is set against the backdrop of World War II. Pic lensed in locations around Oz during 2007, and director Baz Luhrmann is currently shooting pick-ups in Australia with lead thesps. Fox's date shift will buy Luhrmann a little more more time to finish the film. Summit Entertainment leapt to the space vacated by "Harry Potter" with its highly anticipated vampire pic "Twilight." Other Thanksgiving pics include Disney toon "Bolt," Cormac McCarthy adaptation "The Road" and another literary adaptation "Time Traveler's Wife." |

The movie is now coming to theaters in both the US and Australia on the same date - November 26. There's been no word as to when the official glittery premiere will be for anywhere yet.

Thanks for the update, narrows.
Even though this latest move avoided opening on the same weekend as 'Solace', there are other films opening the same week that could be competing for the top b.o., such as 'Four Christmases' with Vince Vaugh and Reese Witherspoon. I keep my fingers crossed that Baz, Nicole and Hugh will work their magic with the film goers and bring in good reviews and b.o. for this film. -------------------- Neverland simply doesn’t exist. I keep my fingers crossed that Baz, Nicole and Hugh will work their magic with the film goers and bring in good reviews and b.o. for this film. Well how do you like this take? Apparently only "older women" want to see this movie! And "lack of buzz"????? http://www.darkhorizons.com/news08/080828m.php QUOTE Australia" Delayed Two Weeks
By Garth Franklin Thursday, August 28th 2008 As expected, 20th Century Fox's period romancer "Australia" has been moved out of its November 14th release slot to the November 26th Thanksgiving holiday weekend. With fantasy juggernaut "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" having vacated the prime pre-Thanksgiving weekend this year, various other features have slid in to that week and the following to fill its place. "Australia" now joins that list and in doing so, fills the needs of an otherwise neglected demographic - older women. All the other films of the holiday cover all the other demos - "Bolt" for the kids, "Twilight" for the female teens, "The Transporter 3" for the male teens, and the likes of "Milk", "The Road" and "The Soloist" for the arthouse crowd. Add to that is the new James Bond feature "Quantum of Solace" scheduled to open November 14th and now dominate much of the November/December box-office. When 007 was pushed back a week last week, it was expected the Baz Luhrmann romantic epic would move to avoid the Bond juggernaut. Opening against Bond in its third week and "Twilight" in its second, the film now has a shot at being #1 at the holiday box-office if it can overcome the general lack of buzz it is currently receiving. |

I don't know about it being just for older women but sadly, it does lack buzz. They don't seem to be using those "leaked" test reviews, either, those are what should be creating the buzz.
Fall movie lists should be coming out pretty soon, we will know if it is getting any buzz if it gets a good spot or mention on lists or is relegated to the "honourable mentions" section. "Australia" is a big Fall movie but I am not sure that the film magazines (hardcopy or online) are giving it the kind of attention that it needs. A site like Darkhorizons should be writing up a storm about "Australia" since I think that it is actually an Aussie film site so if it says that it can't hear the buzz on "Australia", I think there is a point there. -------------------- "Tis the song, the sigh of the weary,

Well how do you like this take? Apparently only "older women" want to see this movie! And "lack of buzz"????? http://www.darkhorizons.com/news08/080828m.php I would think the "romance" aspect of this film will draw younger women in as well. I'm also guessing that more than a few will be inclined to see this film more than once. With three full months to go before the opening, I suppose it's alright if there's not much "buzz" yet. It's better to "buzz" at the right time than to be buzzing too early and then completely fizzle out when the film opens, a la last year's Elizabeth:The Golden Age and Atonement. -------------------- Neverland simply doesn’t exist. It is important to "buzz" at the right time. I think that Baz is doing the right thing by releasing bits of promotion at the right times to build a genuine interest. There have been plenty of movies that I've been burned out on the "buzz" and therefore didn't even bother going to see them. |
