Congrats to CM thumbsup.gif

Honestly I didn´t expect too much, but why only one? I mean Mandy Walker would have deserved it soo much for Cinematography.

Why not Brandon? They've nominated Rpb Downey Jr for Tropic Thunder, I wonder what's the beautiful in his interpretation.

Congrats to CM, but Australia deserved something more. It's a scandal for me.

Downey Jr. I think was a comedic role and I bet you his having starred in "Iron Man" which was a big hit also had something to do with this nomination. Doesn't really matter because Heath is going to win.

Re Brandon - this article gives some clues I think about how nominations work. And as much as we hate to admit it, it sounds like US box office and reception of the movie matters.

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story...0-16947,00.html

* Although critics have raved about Brandon's debut acting performance as Nullah, Fox Studios cancelled a promotional trip to the US that was planned for him last month.

And his current visit will focus on his role in two Luhrmann-directed advertisements for Tourism Australia, rather than his acting role in the film.

* Brandon's parents and family friends are worried that the career of the aspiring young actor, whom Luhrmann praised as "Australia's next leading man", could be cut short by the disappointing reception for the film in which he stars.

* "They travelled the country, lived like stars and got looked after," he said. "But given the lack of financial success of the film, it may leave them behind.

Yes, but I don't like him at all in that movie!

They've nominated The Reader: it's the first movie in ten years which has under 60% media on metacritic and rotten.
Wenstein Bros did something, I'm sure.

I forgot about the Weinstein factor! And Kate won Best Actress for The Reader at the Golden Globes for SUPPORTING and now it's in the Best Actress category! And she probably has a good shot at winning too I bet...

Downey Jr. in Tropic Thuder is comic perfection! I'm really glad The Reader made it, a surprise but a pleasent one! I need to see it right now, wanted to see it when I first heard about it starring Nicole and wanted ever since.

Ugh, I just can't accept that Slumdog Millionaire is sweeping the awards. Overrated film.

Congratulations to CM but a pox on them for only giving Australia one nomination. I thought it would surely get a nomination for best visual effects. I will be watching the Academy Awards to see if my favorite male actor, Sean Penn, gets an award. He may not--I think he already has two Oscars, but he's good in every movie I've seen him in.
