Just saw a special screening of Nine at the local mall. Wow! What a fantastic and exciting movie. Can't say enough good things about the performances, the music, the dancing, everything. Didn't notice exactly how long it was, but it was definiely over 2 hours- I'd say around 2:15, but it was really well paced and didn't feel long at all. Nicole was wonderful. Besides the scenes she's in with all the other actresses that you see in the trailer, she's only in the movie for about 10-15 minutes. In that short time though, she gives us a well developed character with a lot of mystery that leaves you wanting more of her. She's got some of the best lines in my opinion, funny and insightful ones. And I enjoyed her song the best. Man, can she sing! We knew this from Moulin Rouge, but here the song showcases her voice even more. It's grown deeper and fuller and is really beautiful to listen to. All the actresses in this can sing, but I found her voice to be the most pleasant. I can definitely see this movie being nominated for an Oscar. I don't know if the song that Fergie sings, "Be Italian" is an original or if it was in the Broadway show, but if it was written for the movie then I would say it's a definite as well for best song. I don't want to give away too much so as not to spoil anything, but I will say that Nicole is the perfect embodiement of her role. No one else could have played that part. And she does an accent! Very glad about that. Wish she was in it more but maybe it's good to leave people wanting more. I went with a friend who's not biased like me and she said she wished there was more of Nicole's character too. Got to fill out a questionnaire about the film at the end and wrote about Nicole wherever I could! In a movie with so many big names, I wanted them to know I was seeing it because of her. Can't wait till the movie officially comes out later this year to see it again!

Thanks so much for letting us know you got to see the preview! Glad to hear you enjoyed it so much. I guess this was something like they did with "Australia" around thsi time last year.
I have always thought Nicole has a really good voice so I am glad her singing is just as good or better here then in the past in your opinion. -------------------- "We're Progress Not Perfection." - Keith Urban

This sounds promising and I know you aren't biased at all Magic Gillian
"Just saw a special screening of Nine at the local mall. Wow!" This bit in your post made me laugh as I was thinking of the shows they have in the malls here in Australia where a stage is put in the court area. But I suppose you mean it is a mall with a cinema Looking forward to hearing Nicole sing. Bet Keith has a lot to do with added qualities. Thanks for the great news |

QUOTE Just thought I'd let everyone know that I went to an advanced screening at SoHo House in New York last night to watch an advanced screening of Rob Marshall's, Nine. Just a few brief notes: 1.It is a highly entertaining film, albeit a rather long one. I'm not sure for how long it went for as we weren't allowed to bring in any phones (and I wasn't wearing a wrist watch), but it felt it was in the 2 and a half - 3 hour region. The dance scenes were rather spectacular (I'm not allowed to say too much about them) but sometimes tediously long and tiring and just didn't seem toend and at sometimes overdone. But overall a fine film; I wrote this on the response sheet they gave us at the start of the film. 2.Daniel Day-Lewis's; singing shocked me. I have not seen him sing before, but he impressed me with his voice. He's no opera singer (he has a very low register voice when singing), but for an actor whose never sung publically before he was pretty damn fine. 3.Penelope Cruz really stood out for me; she plays sexy and sultry so well. I have never seen the musical, so I don't know how she compares to the theatres adaption; nor do I know how true the other actors stayed to the original characters. Penelope Cruz for me, was a scene stealer, and was the best dancer out of the whole cast, although not the best singer. We were told at the start that it wasn't 100% finished. But I didn't notice any difference. I'm new to IMDB, so what do people want to know?We were told at the start that it wasn't 100% finished. But I didn't notice any difference. I'm new to IMDB, so what do people want to know? imdb.com QUOTE Kate Hudson was her perky self as per usual. Marion was wonderful, as was her singing! A very deep, pained voice (it was wonderful! She was one of the best singers), Sophia wasn't in it much...Nicole was quite a good singer but I found was overshadowed a bit by the fantastic performances of Cruz and Cotillard. imdb.com That’s because They’re leading and she is supporting |

Yes,15 mins is too SHORT!!!!!!!But as a supporting actress is reasonable . and also rather 15 strong minutes than 2 hrs of medicore performance (not that Nicole ever had that). How many songs does Nicole sing? I second that question. -------------------- “I love working with people who are inspired and obsessive.” NK

Wow! Thank you so much for the great review, MagicGillian. Can't wait to see it.
If that's alright, can you tell me how were Penelope, Marion and Judi Dench's performances? And do you think the movie is oscar-worthy? I'm also a big big fan of the musical so I have a lot of curiosity.. Thanks. This post has been edited by silviabroome: Jul 29 2009, 01:12 AM |
