that`s an interesting choice since both movies are definitely dealing with more or less the same topic

She did "Boys Donīt Cry". So she sort of worked with this subject in a way before, thatīs good and the fact that a woman makes the film is good also.
But what is with Tomas Alfredson? I read that heīd do it somewhere, but not on imdb.

But, I was thinking, the analogy between Boys Don't Cry and this will be too evident...

There is an analogy, but I donīt think itīs too evident. I actually think itīs an advantage to have such a director (if itīs true). She knows how to work with this subject without making it look ridiculous and stupid (like Jonathan Glazer handled it in "Birth". For another director it would have been easy to make it look ridiculous).

Yes, she knows the subject and she did a great job with Boys Don't Cry, but I think that unfortunally people will make a comparison...The same "subject" for the same director..

Comparisons are inevitable, what can you do? But I'm just really happy this project is happening. I'm super excited about everything she's got lined up except for The Eighth Wonder.

I agree, but I think the director did a very good job on that film...I hope it happens again with this one..
And I will love to see Nic and Charlize working together...

Nicole will play Einar Wegener and Charlize Theron will play the wife Greta Wegener.

The director is Tomas Alfredson.
According to this person on IMDB (which has changed the name to Alfredson) he confirmed it:
QUOTE
Yes the director is official, and has himself reconfirmed so orally in the Swedish daily paper GP Göteborgsposten - http://www.gp.se/gp/jsp/Crosslink.jsp?d=286&a=517057

Charlize Theron is not in anymore, it is another actress that is going to play one of the main parts but name is still not given.

Before this film Tomas Alfredson is also doing "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" by John LeCarré.

Must say really good to have him as director in a Scandinavian story so it wont be to Americanized.. We Scandinavians have a more liberal sight in sexuality than most, in a natural way.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0810819/board/flat/144608032?p=1

Just curious, whoīs gonna play Greta

Does someone speak Swedish and could maybe translate the text?

Alfredson right helmer for 'Danish'
Kidman stars in sex-change drama; Theron out

"Let the Right One In" helmer Tomas Alfredson will direct Nicole Kidman in true-life sex-change drama "The Danish Girl."
Script is written by Lucinda Coxon, based on David Ebershoff's novel about Danish painter Einar Wegener (Kidman), who in 1931 became the first person to go through a sex-change operation to become a woman.

However, Charlize Theron, who had been attached to play Wegener's wife, Gerda, has left the production.

Pic will be produced by Kidman and Per Saari, head of Kidman's Fox-based Blossom Films shingle, along with Anne Harrison, Gail Mutrix and Linda Reisman.

"We have been in talks for close to a year, and we are soon going into production," Alfredson told Daily Variety.More than one option(Co) Daily Variety

Alfredson said that he planned to shoot "The Danish Girl" before his previously announced John le Carre adaptation, "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" for Working Title.
