Dylan wins Nic's heart
Adam Harvey, New York
19aug05

DYLAN Hartung is not just the toughest six-year-old in Manhattan. The Melbourne cancer patient is also a first-class charmer after Nicole Kidman visited his bedside yesterday and promised to take him on a date to the movies.

Mum Melissa said: "Dylan says 'I'm famous'. He thinks he's the famous one, that's why all these women want to meet him."
Kidman and daughter Bella visited Dylan at Ronald McDonald house, where he is being treated for a rare form of cancer called neuroblastoma.

Kidman made the trip after reading about him.

"They talked about movies," Mrs Hartung said.

"Nicole asked him what movies he liked, and he said War of the Worlds.

"I was worried that Dylan had put his foot in it, but Nicole told him, 'Tom Cruise is Bella's dad'."

"Dylan was really impressed," Mrs Hartung said.

Dylan even got away with telling Kidman about the other woman in his life.

"He told Nicole that he had two wishes: to beat cancer, and meet Angelina Jolie," Mrs Hartung said.

"She said that she thought Angelina Jolie was beautiful, and she'd see if she could do something about helping him meet her."

Dylan gave Kidman a mood ring and told her she was officially on his list of top chicky babes. "There are 16 women on the list now," Mrs Hartung said.

It was another fantastic day for the boy, who in July 2004 was given less than a year to live.

Doctors in Australia said Dylan's parents should stop treatment and take him home. But experimental treatment in New York has held off the cancer, and his condition has stabilised.

Since arriving in New York he's been driven around town in a Ferrari, visited most of the city's best attractions, and attended countless barbecues and a karaoke night in his honour.

He was also treated to a surprise visit from dad Tim and brother Cain, who flew into New York thanks to strangers who donated Qantas frequent-flyer points.

Though his condition is stable, Dylan has dropped to 17.1kg from a high a few weeks ago of 19.8kg. He has endured dangerous surgery, energy-sapping bouts of chemotherapy, and now platelet replacement treatment.

Dylan's treatment has been funded by gifts from Australia and the US.

Donations can be sent to: Dylan Hartung Fund, Australia Post, Dandenong Letters Centre, Locked Bag 5100, Dandenong Vic 3175.

That is SO SO sweet. I love that Nicole does things like that...it sounds like that visit really made Dylan's day.

Haha that kid is a character! She's on his list of chicky babes! lol! How cute! And that was pretty funny about him saying War of the Worlds!

Thanks for that 07!

oops.... good thing I came back here with something I had forgotten because I had not seen you had posted this already vanessa and I started a new thread. ..blame it on rushing around in the morning and jumping on the computer while showering, having breakfast, feeding animals etc.

I will merge the two together. So sorry. And I agree skanky..he is one brave boy and so cute with his comments.

This is such a beautiful thing for her to do. She has a lovely soul. What a cutie this little guy is. I love htat he thought he was the famous one!! I guess at this point, he is and hopefully, he will continue to get the support he needs financially, so his family can afford the ongoing cost of treatments.

Awww, this is beautiful.
Thank you Vanessa for the article and the photo.

Wow and looks like Foxy got another version of it, and bigger. Thanks Foxy rose.gif. As Joanna said, I love Nicole being so generous to others. She's making other people happy and I'm sure that's what she wants to achieve.

It was pretty interesting what Dylan said about his favorite movie. Looks like Nic also had a very smart answer for it, poor Dylan's mom hehe.

Thanks again everyone
