BREAKING: 'Nine' Has Been Moved to December
Clears up that Thanksgiving weekend a little doesn't it
BY: Brad Brevet | October 8th 2009 at 12:19 PM

I just got word that The Weinstein Co. has officially moved Rob Marshall's musical Oscar contender Nine from its currently scheduled release date of November 29 to a limited release on December 18 in New York and Los Angeles and will then go wide on December 25.

The move only makes sense considering Weinstein/Dimension already had The Road hitting theaters on the 25th along with several other releases that have recently crowded the Thanksgiving holiday weekend schedule. Now it will serve as alternative programming on the 18th with Avatar before facing Sherlock Holmes on the 25th.

On top of this news A Single Man has been set for release on December 11 in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco and will also expand on Christmas Day.

I wonder when the stars will begin promotion of Nine and also if Nicole will participate in the promotion.
I would imagine early to mid December would be a good time for promotion (maybe talk shows? press conferences?) I don't think Nicole would want to appear on Letterman again after the last time when she tried to promote Australia with Letterman. rollin.gif

I don't have any doubts about Nine being able to compete with other Christmas movies being released at the same time as Nine---I feel pretty certain that Nine will be a big box office success with all the talent in this film. thumbsup.gif

Wouldn't she be in Australia in mid December?

She has the whole month of November and first half of December. I hope all of them will make the promotional rounds. I have seen DDL only once on Leno show (don't remember that "NY" movie or "There Will Be Blood").

The wait is getting shorter even though the date was moved to December 25 sob.gif but now less than two months away. We've been waiting so long.....

I bet all our Italian fans, if they can, will attend the premiere in Rome earlier (??) than the 25th. Please, please, Italian fans--I know you can hardly wait--could you keep us up to date on your plans to see the Nine premiere in Rome... starburst.gif .......

and your impressions of the film as well as the stars at the premiere??!? Sightings & Photos definitely appreciated Martini.gif beatingheart.gif Same for other NKU members! praying.gif

By the way, who thinks Nicole will be at the Italian & other premieres? Get your cameras ready! dancing.gif

Sorry gracie but I don't think here in Italy there will be a premiere earlier than Dec 25th...The movie will out Jan 15, or even later, so the premiere (if there will be one) will be around mid Jan. I'm sorry sob.gif

Just my guess, Gracie, with so many A-listers in the cast, they might "divide" up the PR/promo appearances so some of the stars don't have to criss-cross the globe. I'm guessing NK might not have to travel to Europe. She'll probably just do the Asia-Pac premieres, including Australia, and perhaps the North America premiere. Anyway, it's just a guess.

Nicfan22 I am so sorry to hear that the decision-makers decided not to open the film in Italy until January.....It's hard to believe that since the movie focuses on an Italian film director and takes place in Italy and was partially filmed in Rome that an early premiere would not be in Rome.
Well, hopefully, some day you will have a Nicole sighting in Italy!

Meisha, thank you for your ideas about the promotions and premieres. Your idea about splitting up the promotions & premieres is certainly reasonable for the considerable amount of time & travel for the actors. Asia Pac & North America would be a good choice for Nicole as I believe L.A. is one of the departure airports for Australia and Asia Pac is so much closer to Australia than Europe. (Plus which the premieres & promotions of Nine would be just before Christmas...not too ppopular with most people to do that at Christmas time.)

Absurd, isn't it!? The movie was shooted for an half in Rome and as you said the musical is based on one of the most influent and important italian director in movies history!! For this reason I thought at least to see the movie arounf december, but waiting until 15 January is incredibe!!!! sob.gif
