I posted awhile ago about this person's comments, here they are Polaris happy.gif:

The person who made this comments is called jungewum and of course he couldn't say much due to Confidentiality Agreement but here are his thoughts:

I've seen the rough cut version of FUR and I think Nicole's performance will be the best of all the Oscar Best Actress winners in the last 20 years (even better than Holly Hunter's in The Piano).
Stay tuned.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been bound by confidentiality agreement by Picture House.
I saw this at a very limited and exclusive test screening for studio reviewers.
I can only say that I was completely in awe of Nicole's performance as Diane Arbus (even though the film is only a rough cut). There was a scene with Nicole and Rob DJ where they discussed about their relationship (Diane broke in tears) and this scene will become the key scene that showcased Nicole's acting prowess and it will give her the best chance of being nominated for her third academy award. Overall I'm very excited about Nicole's prospects.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the test screening, I went home, deeply emotional (at the same time touched) by what I saw. Diane's tragic life really touched me. Nicole's performance in FUR embodies Diane Arbus' character and vision. Nicole's character seems weird from the outset but it is with a reason, and when you think about it, it really makes a lot of sense when you read Diane's quotes.

"Freaks was a thing I photographed a lot. It was one of the first things I photographed and it had a terrific kind of excitement for me. I just used to adore them. I still do adore some of them. I don't quite mean they're my best friends but they made me feel a mixture of shame and awe. There's a quality of legend about freaks. Like a person in a fairy tale who stops you and demands that you answer a riddle."

"Most people go through life dreading they'll have a traumatic experience. Freaks were born with their trauma. They've already passed their test in life. They're aristocrats."

"Nothing is ever the same as they said it was. It's what I've never seen before that I recognise."

"It's important to take bad pictures. It's the bad ones that have to do with what you've never done before. They can make you recognize something you hadn't seen in a way that will make you recognize it when you see it again."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The weirdness factor is what makes this film unique as it requires serious acting from Nicole and Rob. Nicole has the most screen time in the film and from what I see, she really did her research for Diane's role. I'm really happy for her.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I love great actors who play great characters in films. I guess Nicole Kidman falls under this category of actors. I'm a fan of Diane Arbus' works.
Yes, most of the other reviewers had the same reaction as mine after the test screening. I will be writing a review for a magazine when the time comes.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This time next year, you'll see Nicole Kidman in the For Your Consideration For Best Actress posters everywhere. Seriously, Nicole doesn't need any form of publicity to get nominated. Her performance in FUR speaks for itself and I think it is more than justified to win her 2nd Best Actress oscars.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nicole's portrayal of Diane Arbus is deep and emotional. I would have liked the film to be black and white - it would have given the film a really classy and deep look and feel. That's just my opinion of the film.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It will be up to Picture House/Steven Shainberg to decide if they want to enter FUR in any film festivals prior to the Golden Globes/Oscars. The version that I saw was a very rough cut. Give this a few months of studio editing + composing of a good score (a suggestion that I put forward) and I think it will be ready for the big time. I think we may be looking at some possibilities of supporting acting awards as well (just my opinion).

It's certainly not been above the major studios to do something like this - release made-up positive reviews - but a smaller studio like Picturehouse? I don't know why I trust the smaller studios to have a bit more integrity, but I do. And anyway, there's little need to create advance hype about a film with Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey Jr. - the caliber of the cast and director (and the fact that Downey is returning to acting after a long hiatus) will create it's own buzz. I'm sure the recent Arbus exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum (NYC) won't hurt - there are probably a lot more people right now - myself included - who are acquainted with Arbus' name and her work, if not all the facts of her life, than there were just a few months ago. Timing is everything with movies. (Ok, almost everything.)

And the description here, meager though it is (darn confidentiality agreement!) certainly sounds absolutely true-to-form to Nicole at her best, so on that level I have no doubt that this is true, luis. Just my opinion, but I'm more excited abouth the film than ever.

Going just a bit off-topic if I may, 2005 has been one of the worst years for actresses in the cinema that I can remember - where have been the major roles for women as there have been for men: Capote, Good Night and Good Luck, etc. (That both are also historical bios may or may not be coincidental). That's another reason I'm looking forward to Fur. A couple of years ago when The Hours, The Others, etc came out I thought we'd entered another golden phase of moviemaking. Now I realize that it was just Nicole having a good run. lol.gif Of course a few good roles for one actresses doesn't seem to help the cause of women in film in general (more women working within the industry I think might help - and audiences demanding to see more female protagonists onscreen) but there's another reason why I'm looking forward to Fur - Nicole can do all the big-studio stuff she wants for the fun of it, but when she does the really meaty, emotionally-demanding high-quality work in which she shines and which she was born to do, the movies (and we as moviegoers) are so much the better for it.

After reading all those "my opinions", I do want to believe that is true because I am so excited to see Fur.
When Jungewum said about Fur in black and white I was like "That would be so nice ", but at the same time as I haven't seen the movie yet it's better I calm down and wait.

Thanks Skanky. rose4.gif

Thanks for reminding me, Ju. When Jungewum (we have a proliferation of "Ju's" today!) said that about the b/w I thought it was a good point, because Diane's work at that time was in b/w. Of course, being the 1950's this made sense (color being still very expensive and still reserved more for celebrity photography - even most films were still b/w), but it would have connected the film to the artist's work even further - and perhaps contributed to the "fairy tale" (i.e. unreal) quality the director is wanting to evoke. And we all know how good Nicole looks in b/w photographs... lol.gif

Having seen the Met's exhibition of Arbus' work, I can't imagine those photos in anything but color. Color would have made them seem tawdy (like modern-day tabloid photos), whereas b/w elevates the images and gives them a richness that expresses the nobility Arbus found in her subjects.

Thanks for posting this skanky, and many apologies for the late reply. I went home for the holidays, and went without NK news for a month.

I hope the film lives up to these positive comments. Being an NK drama, it is bound to generate a lot of publicity and PR of the sort that Red cautions about. I am excited because it is a small film, something NK hasn't done since Birth, which was shot quite a while ago - an eternity for NK fans.

QUOTE(luis @ Dec 29 2005, 11:40 PM)
Who is this person? maybe is not true
*

The person is a reviewer as he stated in his comments. There are a few reasons why I think it is true, if the person was just trying to kid, he would have written a review, this is just a little taster and the time he saw it pretty much gels with when it was shown at the AFM. This poster is also not the first person to have hinted that this might actually be her best work and a good movie, there are a few sites like goldderby.com where it is mentioned. Fur is also not the kind of movie that I think people expect to make money or have to push ridiculously in that commercial direction hence causing the studios to start sending people out to say how great it is.
You may choose to believe it or not. We will know soon enough when the movie is released.

As for the person being an NK fan, you can read his thoughts on that, it is included in his comments.

And no problems polaris, hopefully, the movie and performances hold up happy.gif.
