This is from a guy named Alex Crawford who is supposedly a film reviewer for BBC radio Lincolnshire. I don't know if he says "Oscar" just because Nic, Downey, and Shainberg are involved. But I sure hope he's right!
Fur Directed by Steven Shainberg Starring Robert Downey Jr and Nicole Kidman. Currently without a release date Robert Downey Jr’s umpteenth film of the year is Fur, an eagerly anticipated biopic of Diane Arbus, which may see the actor and Nicole Kidman (Arbus) contend for Oscars at this time next year. Arbus was a revered American photographer, whose images captivated the world until her suicide in 1971. Once she had died, she became the first American photographer whose work was displayed at the Venice Biennale. Kidman and Downey Jr immediately lend any project the veneer of class, and the fact that this is Shainberg’s follow-up to the brilliant Secretary should merely pique anticipation even more. I fancy it to be an Oscar contender next year, and possibly one of the favourites to win big. -------------------- "If anybody did any harm to her, I would kill them, go to prison for 20 years and smile about it every day"--- Paul Bettany on his "guardian angel" Nicole Kidman

That was a great little article!! I hope it is true SOO much!! If Nic wins another Oscar I will be over the moon happy!! SHE deserves it so much...I think she was snubbed once or twice in the past years for movies, esp. Dogville and Birth. I also will be thrilled if the movie as a while is recognized with an Oscar nom! |

I think it's important we don't get too excited about the IMDB poster's comments. They seem genuine but don't forget this is just one person's opinion. Another IMDB poster has also posted that Fur "moved like frozen mollasses" and that he didn't get Nicole's performance and found it boring. Again I have no reason to doubt that poster but that is an entirely different opinion to the first poster's. I think we should just wait and see, but I know that Nicole won't let us down with her performance. As her fans, we can appreciate her subtleties and nuances but not everyone do and this film may not be to everyone's taste as it has been described as weird and in Nicole's own words, "like an acid trip". I just hope it's a critical success .

QUOTE(carole @ Jan 19 2006, 07:41 PM) I was hoping so, I might try to go there in may... (Belgium is not that far away from it ;-)). I found another opinion about Nicole's performance:
"Ok guys just seen a rough draft of FUR. Nicole is a given nom for BA for her spectacular performance in FUR. She is just amazing. Her best performance. Robert Downey was excellent as well. I see a supporting nom for him. Not a commercial film - but neither was The Hours and it made a profit With a great score, this film should do well come award season. I also like the way the film shifts from B/W to colour. Such a great twist of cinematography" http://goldderbyforums.com/groupee/forums/...64/m/9821048903 This post has been edited by C81: Mar 19 2006, 09:37 PM |

Hi everyone, I'm new here!
I was just over at IMDB and the first guy who saw it was invited back to see the final cut. Here are his thoughts: "I was invited for a second preview of Fur last week. This film has undergone a number of changes since the last time I saw it. The cinematography is excellent as I had expected it to be. A number of scenes have been added - the opening scene showed a group of photography students at a recent Diane Arbus' exhibit. There is a showcase of some of Arbus' famous works and we can hear Kidman saying this in the background - "A photograph is a secret about a secret...the more it tells you the less you know...." Then the scene focuses on a picture of a child staring straight at you and the film slowly (very slowly) transition from color to black and white. The story starts off in the year 1933 when Arbus was a very young girl. Fur has one of the most memorable endings in cinematic history and one that moves me deeply. I think we already have a winner." http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0422295/board/...800089#40800089 YAY! This post has been edited by NicoleFan17: Apr 14 2006, 08:09 AM |
