mss_diane.. I think the first photo maybe, but hopefully it will be her acting that wins acclaim and not a photo
 . I would hope that second photo, which seems identical to some I have seen before (eg from Birthday Girl), is ignored. It is gratuitous in the trailer and I am saddened that Nicole did not request those few seconds be taken from the trailer. It seems to me to be incongruous with her support for Breast Cancer research and with her care for Sydney Children's Hospital. I may exclude that cap. (apologies Que. It is just, well Nicole may feel comfortable with using her fame to make smoking appear sophisticated, but I would rather my board was not.. not that I am blaming you for making the cap, but now it has been higlighted on the topic, I feel I should make a stand). The other caps, however are excellent.

Foxy I agree with you when you say for the purpose of the board an image that shows smoking should be removed... I didn't even think about that... no apologies needed... I have no issue with that but... if such an image can persuade or convice someone to smoke well something tells me it's not the image's fault...
... I don't smoke, I actually am a health nut and try to keep my body as healthy as possible... and I didn't find this image at all troubling... actually when I saw this trailer for the first time I wrote to skanky about it... she can testify to that... that this image had an impact on me... I think it has to do with the moment more than with smoking or cigarette itself or cigarette smoke... I don't think Nicole nor film's director... well I think it's safe to say they are not trying to poison young minds... I don't see how this image in any way impacts Nicole's work for Breast Cancer research or her involvement with Sydney's Children Hospital... it is a movie after all... I really don't think that she's trying to make it look sophisticated... I don't want to go thru the list of her films but there are some out of this world things she does in her movies... which are far more... well I'll leave it at that... I think a young mind should be able to separate film from reality... ...but I can't disagree if you remove the image, I understand how you see this... Thanks for understanding my feelings, although I accept you do not agree with my thoughts and that is fine. I will not develop the theme here as I have mentioned it in the past from other films of Nicole, other than to say, unfortunately young girls model themselves on movie stars. This is why tobacco firms have, in the past, paid huge amounts for smoking by stars to be included in films. Nicole and the director may not intend that, in fact I am sure they do not, however that is the end result, whether they like it or not.
I would have overlooked the image if it had not been highlighted by mzz_diane (although I made a brief mention of it when I first saw the trailer). Once that happened I felt I should say something. I would have preferred Nicole not to smoke in the film, but am resigned to this happening a lot in Nicole films. I take issue with it being in the trailer. I agree there are other 'themes' as well in Nicole's films. Generally these are kept within the film itself. Do not worry about it for the moment. It was on the trailer topic as well and not removed then. At this stage, this is the furthest my protest goes! |

Thanks Que for the HQ pics. The issue of smoking is a valid point that you bring up foxy and I agree with your comment on young girls modelling themselves on celebrities. I personally am not persuaded by anything that I see on the movies but I understand that some people might be influenced by movie stars and think that smoking might be cool. I dont think Nicole wants her audiences and fans to see her smoking but this role demands her to play that part and she is just doing her job. If anybody has thoughts on this, please feel free to reply.

The reason why I chose the two pics is because they resemble past performances that I
.The first pic looks like the opera scene in Birth where Anna showed so much emotions with her facial expressions (totally worthy of an Oscar). The second pic looks like the scene in The Hours with Virginia Woolf smoking like there is no tomorrow, which earned Nicole an Oscar award. I have no issues with the pics at all but I totally agree with Foxy that smoking scenes should be removed from the film. I have always imagined Nicole to be a very health conscious type of person with her yoga and gym classes.

Mss_diane - exactly my point I think - "The Hours" photo you refer to was used a lot on the cover of magazines at the time the film was released. For me it was hard to scan the covers and articles in. Even buying the magazines with photos of Nicole smoking on the cover felt like a betrayal to myself and to those I personally knew who died due to smoking in very unpleasant ways. But I did nonetheless. More shame on me I guess
 Sorry about diverting the topic here. I think, maybe rather than expanding further on that area (apologies Nicole to your request for more comments), we can focus on the other 30 or howevermany excellent screen caps.
