QUOTE(skankyoldwhore @ Oct 14 2006, 10:57 PM) i am really glad she said that. these films are in most of the cases far better than most of the blockbusters because they make you think about the topic. i am always looking more foreward to little indie pics than those studio flicks. |

Thank you Nathalia, Kiha and consuelo for the articles!
Of course I would have liked to seen more emphasis on Fur at the press conference rather than her personal life. Did I actually think that was going to happen? Honestly - no, so no surprises here. QUOTE(nathalia @ Oct 14 2006, 01:51 PM) I want to lead a more wild and dangerous life, declares Nicole Nicole Kidman has declared she wants to lead a more 'wild and dangerous' life. The Oscar-winning actress was in Rome for the launch of the inaugural Rome Film Festival where she said: "One of my dangerous movies will be showing." The actress was referring to a film called Fur, a fictional story based on the life of the photographer Diane Arbus who went around New York photographing the dispossessed in down and out areas of the city. The film had to take a fictional look at Arbus's life because her family refused to give their permission for the film to use real aspects of Arbus's life. The photographer committed suicide in 1971. In the film Kidman is seen befriending a weird neighbour who is covered in hair. She begins photographing this strange man and begins having an affair with him. Later in the film, as a way of showing Arbus's freedom, the actress disrobes and roams around a nudist colony naked. Kidman said that when the story and the role called for nudity she had no trouble doing it. "What's the problem with taking your clothes off? I just don't know what the big deal is. If it's necessary for the film and the role then I take my clothes off. If for a moment I felt that it was being exploitative then I would never take them off." However, Kidman admitted later that the director rang her morning, noon and night before filming started just to check that she would still do the nude scenes. Kidman added: "I made a commitment to myself that for the rest of my life I don't want to play it safe. I would like to become more wild and more dangerous in my choices the older I get. "That doesn't mean that I won't do studio pictures, it's just that I want to be able to choose to do small experimental, almost avant garde films. They're the films that satisfy me." She said that her recent marriage to country and western singer Keith Urban has made her 'blissfully' happy. "I love being married to my husband, and I feel incredibly happy. It's the best thing I've ever done. He is comfortable with what I do and what I do for my work and he is fulfilled in what he does for his work. "We are compatible, we are happy, and when we're together we spend most of our time eating sushi at a little place in Nashville, Tennessee." The actress said that her home is mostly based in Nashville, although she has retained ties with Los Angeles and she has a house in Sydney, Australia. Recently she began filming the first part of a film based on Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials Trilogy. source _______________________________ I really don't know where to put this article, so I opened a new topic. You can merge it later if you want foxy. Just a few comments - many of the things she said in this interview - about living in a laid-back town, monogamy, committment, career etc - are entirely consistent with things she's said in interviews the last five years - and indeed with inteviews going back to the '90's. I think these almost confirm the sense that "Nic's back" (as if she'd ever gone away.) There's nothing shocking or surprising here (the comments about being committed to small films - but not ruling out the occasional "studio films" is something she has said before, for instance.) What's relatively new is the comfort she has established with her new husband in balancing family life and career, without having to give up "one or the other". (Apparently Keith has made similar comments as of late.) It's interesting to me that occasionally it has been implied that because she is married she would or should give up her career, whereas no one implies or suggests that of her husband (or any other man in a similar situation.) I think as a woman of about her age it's satisfying for me to hear her confirm that this - acting - is a part of her identity. Not the whole enchilada, but a part of herself, and that there is no "crime" in being professionally fulfilled. Nor must it necessarily interfere or prevent personal happiness when held in proper perspective. |

It was on Access Hollywood that Keith was asked if the fact that he had somebody else to think about, would that mean he would change the way he toured. He response was that because he was with somebody who was also in the Arts, that they understood that it wasn't just a job, but a passion (yes I paraphrased a bit). Just because you have a love and a passion for your work, doesn't mean you feel any less love or passion for the person you're with. Both Nic & Keith understand this and I think that's why they make such a fabulous couple. |

I haven't seen all of Nicole's films but I have seen several. One of the things that I always admired about Nicole is that she doesn't seem to do the same role twice. You see so many actors that find success is one type of role and stick with it. You see someone in a movie and think this is same role he/she has done 3 times before but with a different plot and different characters. I have never felt that way about Nicole's movies. She seems to take chances and try different things which I think is great. I know she has been critized for some of choices but I think have to try new things as you grow as an actor and a person. I think she already takes more chances than most actors do so.

Keith has said in many interviews recently that he has found balance in his life which is something he has talked about wanting for a long time. In the Access Hollywood interview when they asked him if he would change how he tours now that Nicole is in his life he said that he was lucky to have some in his life who was also in the arts and understands that this is not just a job it is a passion. I think that goes both ways. I think Keith understands that acting is a passion for Nicole just like music is a passion for him. There was an article about 2 years ago in Country Weekly with Keith and something similiar to this. He was having a conversation with his Grandmother shortly after his Grandfather (who was also a great lover of music) had passed away. His Grandmother made a comment about always feeling that she came second to her husbands love of music. Keith said but out of all the people in the world, you came first.
If you have 2 people, not just celebrities, who are fulfilled professionally, wouldn't that make coming together that much better, knowing that you can share that? Does that make sense? |
