14 October 2007This is from The Age a Melbourne newspaper. I assume this means it must be about to show in Melbourne so will chase up on that. There is a trailer video on the webapage
Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus Email Printer friendly version Normal font Large font Jake Wilson, Reviewer October 15, 2007 The film is a strange fantasy about the celebrated career of arts photographer Diane Arbus. GenreDrama Run Time122 minutes RatedR 18+ CountryUnited States DirectorSteven Shainberg ActorsNicole Kidman, Robert Downey Jr, Ty Burrell, Harris Yulin, Jane Alexander, Teddy Tilkin, Genevieve McCarthy. Ratingstars-1 VIDEO: Trailer - Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus Fur is a fairy tale at heart, which becomes clear as soon as Diane Arbus (Nicole Kidman) finds a key in her drainpipe that leads her to a magical world upstairs from her apartment. Indeed director Steven Shainberg soon flourishes a copy of Alice in Wonderland before our eyes, and a white rabbit. The film is a strange fantasy which postulates that Arbus, prior to her celebrated 1960s career as an art photographer, was able to free herself from an oppressive marriage and enter the world of freakdom thanks to an eccentric, fur-covered neighbour (Robert Downey jnr, whose get-up might be meant to suggest the Cowardly Lion). Kidman plays Arbus as a Stepford Wife gone wild: she has a practised way of signalling repression, but she's less convincing as a incipient free spirit http://www.theage.com.au/news/film-reviews...2300652756.html This post has been edited by friendlyfox: Oct 15 2007, 05:07 PM

I hope you get to see it, Foxy. -------------------- Neverland simply doesn’t exist. What does exist is another definite fact of life and a key to finding happiness: what you do with the uncontrollable junk in your life is totally under your control. - Scott Hamilton, Olympics Gold Medalist

lovenic..this is normal for us. Arthouse movies in particular can take a very long time before coming to Australia. In part due to the limited number of theatres I guess.
UPDATE: Fur will still be showing at the Carlton Nova this coming week, but reduced screenings. Daily: 11.05am & 6.35pm Thursday 17 to Wednesday 24th October (this gives me an excellent chance now to see it, plus A Mighty Heart starts Thursday as well. I may have time to see that as well. Angelina is getting rave reviews for her performance). |
