UPDATE 2 from foxy : More, and better, video to download in this post on page 3 of this topic QUOTE Kidman's compass for kids
By Erin McWhirter December 15, 2007 12:00am NICOLE Kidman may be engrossed in filming one of the most expensive films ever made in Australia but that hasn't stopped her from bringing smiles to the faces of sick kids at Sydney Children's Hospital. The Hollywood star will host a screening of her magical fantasy thriller The Golden Compass for the children and their families at Moore Park's Entertainment Quarter on Tuesday night. The Christmas gesture follows the Sydney-born actress hosting a similar showing of the Oscar-winning animated box office hit Happy Feet in December last year. Kidman has been an active ambassador for the Sydney Children's Hospital Foundation for more than six years. "We're deeply grateful to Nicole for her constant generosity," foundation CEO Elizabeth Crundall said. "For many of the children attending this screening it will be a rare and welcome break from fighting a serious illness in hospital. "Nicole's ongoing support, kindness and dedication is extraordinary." While Kidman, 40, is due to wrap her commitments on outback epic Australia next week, The Golden Compass has brought in $US90 million ($102 million) internationally since opening in 24 countries last weekend. Kidman will officially launch the film, which has been boycotted by some church groups for being "anti-religious", at a red carpet event at the State Theatre on Sunday night. The Golden Compass opens nationally on Boxing Day. http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/stor...5001026,00.html This post has been edited by friendlyfox: Dec 19 2007, 07:30 AM

Yet with all the garbage being written about and hurled at her, Nicole continues to be a giving and caring human being. Too bad those slamming her can't make the same claim.

It is quite something, the way she just sails through and focuses on her actions. Look at the interview with Baz Bamigboye that she must have given very recently, there isn't a hint of bitterness.

I totally agree with all the comments here--Nicole is such a classy lady--you have to admire her generosity and her strength of character. She and Keith are very much alike--they just keep being true to themselves, doing good works, participating in good causes for mankind and giving back to their own country and their adopted country, regardless of what their critics have to say. A lot of the good things they do doesn't get published or recognized because it is something they do unselfishly without seeking publicity like some famous people.

Thanks for the news Meisha. I had seen the topic but had not manged to get to it. This will be tomorrow (Almost today). I am sure the kids will enjoy the film although it would be restricted to those above a certain age I would think. Somewhere I read about 10 years old? I love how Nicole always makes time to go there.

QUOTE Kidman makes golden return to hospital
By Alyssa Braithwaite | December 18, 2007 SHE might play a villain in her latest movie but Nicole Kidman gave an audience of sick children a reason to smile tonight. The Oscar winner hosted a special screening of her film The Golden Compass for children from Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick and their families. Kidman plays a supporting role as scholar and explorer Marisa Coulter in the fantasy adventure, based on the novel of the same name – the first tale in author Philip Pullman's trilogy. Wearing a little black dress and a black bow in her long blonde hair, Kidman arrived at the screening surrounded by children and posed for photos with 17-year-old patient James McLellan. Inside the packed theatre at Sydney's Moore Park, Kidman posed for photos and signed autographs for about 10 minutes for some awe-struck fans. "She's very tall," exclaimed one small boy after meeting the star. Kidman thanked her young audience for coming. "This is a small gesture and I would just like to say I wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year," she said. "I play a villain in this film, so to all the little kids – don't stay." Kidman, who has been an ambassador for the hospital for over six years and hosted a screening of Happy Feet for the children this time last year, said she looked forward to presenting a special film next time. "I hope to come back next year and present the film I have just been making, Australia," she said to loud applause. Kidman was presented with a bouquet of flowers by seven-year-old cancer patient Cooper Smeaton, who she met at last year's Happy Feet screening. After months of intense chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, Cooper has now finished treatment and returned home to Forster. "On behalf of the children at Sydney Children's Hospital I would like to thank you Nicole Kidman for letting us watch our movie and putting a smile on our face," Cooper said. The Golden Compass opens on December 26 and stars Dakota Blue Richards, Eva Green and Daniel Craig. http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story...1-12377,00.html -------------------- Neverland simply doesn’t exist.
