Swarovski to bring sparkle to 'Nine'
New York--When the much-anticipated adaptation of the Broadway musical Nine hits silver screens in November, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman and Kate Hudson won't be the only ones taking center stage. Crystallized--Swarovski Elements will play a starring role, with more than one million of the loose cut crystals set to embellish the cast's costumes.
Academy Award-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood collaborated with Swarovski to create a show-stopping spectacle that sparkles throughout. Crystals adorn 36 costumes, including a crystal mesh dress worn by Kate Hudson, a basque worn by Penelope Cruz and an evening dress worn by Nicole Kidman. The costumes feature nine different crystal applications in 31 styles and 22 colors.
"Swarovski is thrilled to have collaborated with Colleen Atwood on the show-stopping costumes of Nine," Nadja Swarovski, Swarovski vice president of international communications, said in a media release. "It is an honor for the outstanding cast to be embellished with our crystal, and Colleen's artistry as a costume designer is perfectly showcased in these sparkling creations."
It isn't the first time Swarovski has had a big role on screen. Swarovski crystals have adorned sets and stars in classics such as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The Wizard of Oz and Breakfast at Tiffany's, as well as more recent films, including Moulin Rouge, Chicago, Ocean's Thirteen and Dreamgirls, among others.

The above article mentioned "Moulin Rouge". I remember seeing Swarovski's "Satine" necklace when I visited the Swarovski kristallwelten (crystal world) in Austria. Here's a picture of the display:
