Oscar hopefuls top critics' awards
Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman both won awards
British Oscar nominees Dame Judi Dench and Helen Mirren were among the winners at the 22nd awards of the London Film Critics Circle.
Dame Judi collected a gong for best British actress for her poignant performance in Iris, the biopic of British novelist Iris Murdoch.
The 67-year-old, who won a best supporting actress Oscar in 1999 for Shakespeare in Love, is nominated for best actress at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles next month.
Mirren was named best British Actress in a supporting role for her acclaimed performances in Gosford Park and Last Orders.
Jim Broadbent, 52, a hopeful for the best supporting actor Oscar for his role in Iris, was beaten to best British Actor by Scot Ewan McGregor who was honoured for his performance in Moulin Rouge.
Spectacular hat-trick
McGregor's co-star Nicole Kidman, who attended the glittering bash at the Dorchester hotel in central London in a stunning black dress, was awarded actress of the year.
Moulin Rouge completed a spectacular hat-trick by also being named film in the year.
But there was disappointment for the makers of World War II thriller Enigma who had been expected to do well after being nominated in five categories.
Colin Farrell won British newcomer of the year for his role in Tigerland, while Helen Fielding, Richard Curtis and Andrew Davies were honoured as British screenwriters of the year for comedy hit Bridget Jones' Diary.
Gosford Park was named British film of the year, while foreign film of the year went to French film Amelie.
