rollin.gif I found this on http://goldderbyforums.com/groupee/forums/...64/m/9821048903 :

Ok guys just seen a rough draft of FUR and unless the AMPAS are totally *beep* ( well we know they are by last month). Nicole is a given nom for BA for her spectacular performance in FUR. She is just amazing. Her best performance. Robert Downey was excellent as well. I see a supporting nom for him. Not a commercial film - but neither was The Hours and it made a profit With a great score, this film should do well come award season.
I also like the way the film shifts from B/W to colour. Such a great twist of cinematography

I've always admired and for some reason really empathized with Nicole's love of unusual material that speaks to her. That's why she makes great choices artistically in my mind. Naturally I'm talking about her Dogville, Birthday Girl movies as opposed to the big budget missteps like Bewitched and Stepford Wives. I think Fur is one of those amazing choices. Dark, non-mainstream script about a wonderfully talented photographer who ironically might have been not entirely pleased to know she had a movie made about her from what I have read about her! But to have a movie made by trusted hands, (i.e, writer, producer, cast etc) is important as I believe they will weave a tale that will truly show who Diana Arbus was. I think Nicole is lucky to have the ability to chose such roles - ones that really make an impact on her. I am envious in that regard. Cos I am drawn to such material as a movie goer. So in my long way, I am saying that I am so excited about this movie and it's probably the NK movie I have anticipated the most in her career. lol.gif

Thanks for the news! I love b/w films - the transition back and forth could be intriguing. Not that I know much of Arbus but did she do b/w photography? That might be part of the tie in - if her view of the world was b/w then it's quite fitting.

i was reading up on Diane Arbus and i think it was her family that owned a fur business.. it might have something to do with that.

Hopefully, Cannes will select it even if it isn't in Competition.

I don't doubt that it will, Nathi; I think Nicole will give one of her "trademark" intense, searing performances a la Dogville, TPOAL, EWS, etc. Hopefully the film will be of such quality that it supports and compliments her performance, but I have high hopes. In addition to support from Robert Downey Jr., I just read in The Hollywood Reporter.com that Jane Alexander, one of the finest actresses of her generation and far too little seen of late (as is nearly every other actress of "a certain age", alas) is playing Diane's (Kidman's) mother in the movie. If true, my anticipation for this film just ratched up another level.

thumbsup.gif for the beautiful avatar, Nathi; I hope you're feeling better soon! (It's not too serious, I hope?)
