What was exactley her illness? Was it depression or was she hearing voices??
elegant_fan
Idk what it was but whatever it was made her become the great "deep" writer that she was.

I am not sure about that...
I think she was just extremely talented and not just because she was illusionary, and hearing voices.

As far as I know, Virginia was shizophren, heard voices, also had depressions... stuff like that. Serious mental stuff that she was struggeling with during lots of periods of her life!

yeah she was schizophrenic and depressed ... and struggling w/ her sexuality and stuff ... and she claimed to have been raped and molested by an uncle when she was younger.
most of the depression came from the whole thing that women had no rights at that time.

women having rights now doesn't necessarily make a difference...i get depressed...i sometimes want the world to go away, and everyone in it, i want to die at times. looking.gif

Oh I´m sorry to hear that, Bewitching!
I think it is a lot better today for women, really, but not all things have changed, there are still things that ought to be different.

Everybody who feels depressed, I always have an open ear! huggle.gif

@anna
i love you anna, you're brilliant!! huggle.gif huggle.gif huggle.gif
i still think men have priority over women and we should fight more for equal rights. happy.gif

Yes, I think you´re right.
Many thinks are still unfair... even Nicole said that once.
She said that lots of women of her generation don´t like to be called feminists, which is bad because there are still things left that need to be changed!
And I agree with you and her! huggle.gif

there is nothing wrong with being a feminist - it makes me think of the word 'fighter'. i am strongly for womens' rights. thumbsup.gif clap.gif

I totally agree. Of course I do. huggle.gif

I don´t know wether I would like to be called a feminist just because most people still think "feminist, hates men, is obsessive" but I think feminism has more to do with fighting for equal rights and not feeling disadvantaged because being female...
I am glad, I am hardly ever really confronted with disturbing stuff.

But I am sure Virginia was a lot, the time, her character... it must have been really painful and tiring at times. And I admire her for carrying on! clap.gif

As far as I know she had very serious bouts of depression. I found it admirable how in the film she knew that if she moved to the city she would probably end up killing herself, but she would rather die physcially than die spiritually alone in the silence of the countryside.

It's sad that Virginia's life ended the way that it did. Not enough was known about mental illness back then for it to be treated effectivley.
