Don't think so, or it would have won at Berlin!
The documentry value of this thing is unprecedented. Check the "Awards and Nominations" on it's IMDB page, which includes a nomination for "British Independent Film Awards".... Needless to say a nom from the UK can't be political.
I agree that she is very well respected in Europe and very well lauded but it can be quite political, I was one of the people stunned that she didn't win Best Actress for Dogville at Cannes, the award was given to another actress for Barbarian Invasion, reason given was that NK was already established so a lesser known name should be awarded to give them a sort of a push to be seen out there. I live in the UK, BIFA and LFCC are good but BAFTA is all about politics, they simply mirror what AMPAS has on the ballot.
Some people believe NK is a favourite of AMPAS and would be one of the frontrunners, I don't. I don't think they know what she is, a movie star or a character actress? It is the same issue with Johnny Depp, years of being snubbed and now showered with praise for everything he does, he even got nomed for Finding Neverland!
Another thing, why isn't the Independent Spirit Award (ISA) nominating NK for her indie roles? Dogville, Birth were both indie movies. I am sure that she won't be nomed for Fur and UNBP even if her performances in them are outstanding because they feel she is too "big" and AMPAS would laud her instead.
I get stunned now whenever she is nominated because I am surprised they even thought of adding her to the ballot, don't even get me started on the critics, they never give her anything!
