Full Version: Oscar Predictions For "fur"
Nicole Kidman United Board > Nicole > Film and Stage Archives > Fur
Ulker
23. FUR (PictureHouse)

Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman stars in the biopic of American late photographer Diane Arbus who achieved major success during the 60s.

Oscar Potential: A. Screenplay, Acting, Artistics.

We think: playing notorious females has never hurt actresses when it comes to receiving Oscars attention. Nicole Kidman will probably top many predictions lists for next years Best Actress race.

PERFORMERS TO KEEP AN EYE ON...

Based on the nature of the role (or roles) these actors and actresses are playing next year, we distinguish them as the ones with best chances to be nominated in the Acting categories:

The Ladies (In no particular order)

1. Nicole Kidman in Fur (and The Lady from Shanghai)

Theoscarigloo, I had never heard of it. Thanks anyhow for the article, I'll check the site now that I know it's there happy.gif. I also have something related to Nic being nominated...this is from goldderby although I'm not sure. It's really short.

If you'd like to get a 360-day jump on your friends, next year's crop of Oscar nominees for Best Picture will include "Flags of Our Fathers," "All the King's Men" and "The Departed." Sean Penn ("All the King's Men"), Matt Damon ("The Departed") and Jude Law ("Breaking and Entering") will nab Best Actor nominations. Nicole Kidman ("Fur") and Naomi Watts ("The Painted Veil") might get nominations for Best Actress, but the frontrunner is Annette Bening in "Running With Scissors." ------ And Jon Stewart is too smart to accept another gig hosting. It's more comedically advantageous to do it once and go back to making fun of the whole thing.

She will not win.

Oscars are all about politics now; double African American winning first Oscars after 9-11, Crash wins just to defeat Brokeback Mountain, Fahrenheit 9/11 (winner of 2 prizes at Cannes) did not get a single nod, a rap band wins best song with a lyrics about "pimps" full of "f" and "s" words, etc....

Nicole has a big red mark over her head by the Academy after she did Dogville, or you really think her acting in Birth did not even deserve a nomination?

I'm looking forward to her winning prestigious prizes in Europe where it is still about good films and actors, not a political (in)correctness match...

Don't think so, or it would have won at Berlin!

The documentry value of this thing is unprecedented. Check the "Awards and Nominations" on it's IMDB page, which includes a nomination for "British Independent Film Awards".... Needless to say a nom from the UK can't be political.

I hope not. It is an honour to the academy awards to include Nicole's name as a nominee, an honour they do not deserve.

Nicole is much bigger than any award, no actor/actress dead or alive can aprroach her god-like perfection on and off stage. We do not need some politically motivated academy members to tell us this beatingheart.gif happy.gif

Oh come on, adrian.
Don´t be too harsh on them.
Yes some things they did, like the whole thing with Brokeback Mountain *annoyed* me off too, but alltogether I still think they are good judges and I guess the movies and actors that win are very good. All nominees deserve to win and I was a bit sad Brokeback Mountain didn´t win best motion picture, well...

And don´t forget they did honour Nicole for The Hours and made her very happy and the rest of the world was in awe.
Of course we all know Nic is the best anyway, but it´s nice to have that confirmed from the pros and also shout out in the world for everyone to know!!! wave.gif

I agree that she is very well respected in Europe and very well lauded but it can be quite political, I was one of the people stunned that she didn't win Best Actress for Dogville at Cannes, the award was given to another actress for Barbarian Invasion, reason given was that NK was already established so a lesser known name should be awarded to give them a sort of a push to be seen out there. I live in the UK, BIFA and LFCC are good but BAFTA is all about politics, they simply mirror what AMPAS has on the ballot.

Some people believe NK is a favourite of AMPAS and would be one of the frontrunners, I don't. I don't think they know what she is, a movie star or a character actress? It is the same issue with Johnny Depp, years of being snubbed and now showered with praise for everything he does, he even got nomed for Finding Neverland!

Another thing, why isn't the Independent Spirit Award (ISA) nominating NK for her indie roles? Dogville, Birth were both indie movies. I am sure that she won't be nomed for Fur and UNBP even if her performances in them are outstanding because they feel she is too "big" and AMPAS would laud her instead.

I get stunned now whenever she is nominated because I am surprised they even thought of adding her to the ballot, don't even get me started on the critics, they never give her anything!

Regardless of the irregular, political, odd or nonsensical voting of the academy members, they have indeed acknowledged Nicoles potent acting abilities already. She is an Oscar winner and once you have one...you are forever known and announced as an Academy Award winner. That will never be taken away. If she gets another nod or another award it's icing on the cake. There are hundreds of great actors out there and only four awards to be given out (through the Oscars) every year. To win it just once is astronomically against the odds for all actors. Her talent cannot be denied. She's already a winner. I only hope she gets nominated so she'll show up to the ceremony so I can admire her on the red carpet. lol.gif Purely selfish reasons.

Who cares what the academy thinks - the really important people to Nicole aren't the voters - they are her family, dear friends, earnest fans and all the real world people whom she has the great opportunity and gift to help. That's what's meaningful.

Ok girls, you win eek.gif In fact the small line anna siad about how the Oscars made her so happy was the bit that changed my mind alien.gif

Ok, I wish she wins another academy JUST to see her happy again happy.gif But no way this award or the lack of it should have anything to do with the fact that she is the greatest actress ever to grace a screen beatingheart.gif beatingheart.gif

They were always about politics Adrian, since their inception when only six or seven films might have been entered. Sorry to be cynical, but most non-academic award competitions are political in some way or the other. Having been in academia longer than most people, I can say that even in universities, a lot of care has to be taken to ensure that partisan politics does not intervene.

I didn't really care that much. It is sufficient for me, if I think it is a good film. And Birth was much more than a good film. The opinion of Academy members is outside my sphere of influence and I don't spend too much time on it. happy.gif.

As I mentioned above, European prizes will be just about as political as American prizes, and the same for Asian prizes. With that much money and clout involved, it is nearly impossible for award committees to remain impartial.

I totally agree. And only time allows us to know about the quality of a film, like fine wines...

it would be so great to see Nicole that thrilled and happy again,
but wether she will ever get nominated or win again, we all know noone´s as good as her!!!

I'm always very reserved about Oscar predictions. In all these predictions list Nicole's name always appear. It happened with To die for, Cold Mountain, Birth and Dogville. This year is exactly the same situation, mostly because Nicole plays a famous and extraordinary artist, who commit a suicide. It this obvious, that this kind of roles (famous people - artists, actors, singers, writers etc.) are priviliged and beloved by Academy. I think, we have to chill out and wait for movie release and for reviews of course. I'm afraid of last years situations. Most of us expected a nomination for To die for, Cold Mountain, Birth, Dogville (I would add Eyes wide shut also) but then there was a dissapointment. Sometimes I think, that many people look at Nicole's movies in the way - which one of them will be in "Oscar caliber". But hey, this is not a race. I am counting on a good movie and another superb performance by Nicole. Of course, it could be nice, if Academy would nominate Nicole.
westindianp
she desearves another oscar. if it was up to me i'd give out an oscar for every performance that they robbed her of. Are you kidding me did you se her in Birth and in cold mountain, i mean thats what you call acting. I know that the judges are political but i'd still like to see her win again because she desearves it regardless of what i think of the academy!!!! thumbsup.gif
Chanel
I'm so prejudice towards Nicole as being the best actress in the world! I think Renee runs a close second, but Nicole has my heart and there hasn't been a role where she wasn't just outstanding! I couldn't believe they didn't acknowledge her for Cold Mountain, Birth or Dogville! I loved her performance in Bewitched - she literally made that movie work. Looking at her body of work - it's amazing to see her various transformations - The Other's, Moulin Rouge, The Interpreter, etc..
She's just wonderful and her performances just draw you back for more. Other actresses just don't mesmerize you to their characters their playing - I don't know Nicole has something that others just can't pull off. She deserves every recognition by the academy!

I agree with Adrian whole-heartedly. Nicole has made films that deserved an Oscar or at least a nomination...Moulin Rouge, Dogville, Birth, The Others. (She did win a Golden Globe for Moulin Rouge and I'm glad that she did as she deserved it bigtime.)
