Hey!
I just saw this movie and I have to say, I am really impressed.
Of course I only expected the best with that cast and director, but it´s really one of the best movies I have seen lately.
It´s so truthful and every little role is casted perfectly... I also loved the way the story was told by the movie and how Isabel´s look changed after she married Osmond. Her face really changed... it was amazing!!
I also liked the male actors a lot. The actor of Ralph was a totally convincing choice and Viggo Mortensen was very interesting as last resort in the end.
A real masterpiece, in my opinion!!

By the way, did you notice Nicole sometimes looked a bit like in Moulin Rouge especially when she was crying or the scene was in blue shades??
I sometimes really went... ohhh that looks like Satine! It was weird. eek.gif

Yes it’s a real masterpiece , sunny.gif
not only for you !

I did notice that Baz Luhrmann has seen the Campion’s film ! As you said, when Nicole was crying or the scene she was in blue shades and also the costumes and lights…
(Baz have also seen” to Die for” by Gus Van Sant )

Anna16profiler, when the first time I saw Moulin Rouge,
I said : “ohhh… that looks like Isabel Archer” (or Suzanne Stone Maretto) .

But it was not weird for me because many directors steal good ideas from the other directors to create their film.

Yes, well I don´t think Baz has stolen much from Jane.
I mean Satine looked totally different from Isabel, well how couldn´t she?
Satine was styled up and a curtisane, while Isabel was most of the time very natural and ladylike!!
I didn´t mind the connection, I think it was rather beautiful to suddenly think of Satine!!

By the way, I think Isabel was extremely beautiful, I mean of course you can´t make Nicole look less than beautiful, but still I want to say this because in this movie her beauty isn´t always as obvious as in other movies of her.
Especially in the beginning she is very natural and not styled and still looks beautiful in her own unique way, don´t you think?
Just like it was described in the book!!

Baz has stolen so many classic films for Moulin Rouge !
He’s got a huge film knowledge and he’s got an interesting creativity.

It was impossible to think of Satine when I saw the POAL, because Moulin Rouge didn’t exist at that time…

Yes Anna, Nicole is very natural at the beginning of the POAL. Like characters in other Campion’s films : An Exercise in Discipline – Peel, Two friends, Sweetie, An angel at my table
You’re right, Anna, Jane Campion’s characters and Henry James’ characters have this natural in common.
