I have just tried checking the list of films to be screened at Toronto and I don't see Fur included. They are screening more than 250 films, how is that even possible?

I've seen so many movies that already bombed at Cannes making the list, I guess Jeff Wells was wrong.

Forgive me, Foxy, for my unladylike language. Thank you for looking into that, skanky.
I wonder - was it refused, or simply not ready?
Skanky - who is Jeff Wells again?
And if not Toronto - what's the next possibility for it? New York? (What festivals did The Hours play prior to its general release?)

Thanks for the news, Skanky!
I'm not too disappointed that Fur is not going to be shown at Toronto. The last film of Nicole's to be shown at TO was The Human Stain and we all know how well that did. I don't think The Hours was shown at any festival prior to release...maybe they're going for a similar release. It could also be that Nicole will not be able to attend the festival due to filming schedules for The Golden Compass.

I believe The Hours went to the Berlin Festival. Isn't that where she won the Silver Bear along with Streep and Moore?

That's no reasonable explanation as Nicole did not even attend the Venice Film Festival when The Human Stain was screened there.
I thinkit is quite sad, that Fur is not at Toronto, as it is in my opinion a perfect festival film. Perhaps it'll be shown in Rome?

Yes...but I'm sure the Berlin Festival was
after the worldwide premiere of The Hours

Anthony Hopkins was the lead for the Human Stain so he was there representing the film at the Venice film festival. I'm sure Nicole was being promoted as just the supporting actress.

Darn it! I was really hoping that Fur would go to Toronto.
It might be that it was not submitted.
I just looked at the complete list & I have to say I am very disappointed in the line up this year, a couple of other movies I expencted to be there are also not there.
Maybe they were afraid it would get lost in the shuffle?

Well, does anyone know how many more film festivals there are before the Academy Awards? Also, if Fur does not go to a film festival, does that lessen Nicole's chances for an oscar nomination or win?

In my honest opinion the movie not being at the TIFF or any other festival will have absolutely no effect on Nicole's chances of being nominated for an Oscar. I have only been watching the film festival closely for the last 6 years or so & to me it has a very mixed record. A lot of Oscar contenders just from last year as an example were not shown there. The winner (Crash) had long since been out by then. This is also a film festival were a lot of distribution rights are picked up & I remember thinking that a couple of Canadian made films were going to be picked up for wider distribution & they weren't. Plus there have been movies that have bombed in the movie theaters premiered there, i.e. Elizabethtown.
So I really feel this will make no difference at all to Nicole's chances at Oscar time. If the performance is a good as everyone so far is raving people will know it when it counts for awards.
Plus since Nicole is going to be in England filming it would make most sense for Fur to premiere at a festival in Europe so that it wouldn't take as long as it would to get over to Canada.

Forgive my ignorance! I have NEVER been a fan/ supporter of an actor/actress before Nicole. I used to be only interested in musicians, OK... ONLY KEITH LOL!
So.. I do NOT understand ANYTHING about the film industry or anything along those lines, so I have NO CLUE what a film festival is, and why everyone is so upset and depressed about "Fur" not being a part of the film festival.
I would also VERY much appreciate it if anyone who knows a lot about Hollywood, and the film industry, could PLEASE PM me and try to teach me a little, as I am CLUELESS about 98% of everything that has to do with Nicole and her career. But I am MORE than willing to learn, if someone is willing to teach me!
Much like when a bunch of us Keith fans “crossed over” and taught those at NKU, who did not already know, about Keith & the country music industry.
Please enlighten me NKU!
Thanks,
Kensy

That would make sense. What film festivals are there in Europe or the UK in the next few weeks? Anything?
Kensy, have you heard of the Cannes Film Festival. A film festival is just an event that usually runs over a few days to a week, where films are showcased. The film festival may concentrate on certain types of film or a particular director, but there is no rule about it.
Usually a film festival will try to have the better quality films and are perfect for showcasing small arthouse films which otherwise may be otherwise go unnoticed.

I don't know if it was submitted except Wells said it would debut there (and I thought he meant it was already selected but I guess that info. was wrong). I can't say I am disappointed after seeing the list, either, Wiggle.
And gracie, it wouldn't do anything about her Oscar chances, Birth, The Human Stain, Cold Mountain, Dogville were all screened at festivals and nothing Oscar-wise happened there. What it does is start a buzz for a film and let the filmmakers gauge the reaction of the audience and critics.
And NK filming has little to do with the movie not being submitted or selected for festivals.
