Thanks Adrian for allowing the trailer to be viewed by all happy.gif . I think AOL only allows users in the States to view it.

I was wondering why the media are calling this a controversal film? Is it because of who Arbus photographed....but why would that be controversal? The world knows what she photographed so why would it be controversal? I did however read something yesterday where the head of the Telluride festival said Fur will have people talking from Telluride to Rome because it starts in a nudist colony and ends in a nudist colony eek.gif....(I seem to have lost the link :() Also there was a problem obtaining the R rating because the nudity was too graphic....this is something I heard several months ago.

Thanks Adrian! you did an amazing work for all of us.
The trailler is so intense, as i image the film.No doubts Nic as another "deep" character to interpreter and i hope she get another oscar nomination, she deserves.

Wiggle, it seems the word, "controversy" is now used to describe anything that is different or problematic. I never laughed so hard when an ITV correspondent asked Roger Moore how he felt about the controversy sorrounding the search for Bond lol.gif.

Here is the blurb you mentioned:
“You may be right,” Pence allowed cautiously, when I suggested that at first glance there are movies that appear more accessible than in a typical year. But, he quickly suggested, Fur, starring Nicole Kidman as the photographer Diane Arbus, is “not a typical biopic.” The movie begins and ends, he reveals, in a nudist colony, and people who see it at the Chuck Jones cinema in Mountain Village “will be talking about it all the way down on the gondola,” he predicted.

Thanks thanks for the trailer Adrian. rose4.gif rose4.gif rose4.gif I got to see it and was worth waiting 24 hours for. Shame it is currently only on a site most of us could not see! But that wil not last long I am sure.

An excellent trailer. One tiny bit bothered me ...the gratuitous 1 second shot of Nicole smoking. I puzzle over why that was in the trailer, and well, being me and so anti-smoking I was disappointed and it seemed out of place in the trailer. Ah well.

Still... the rest very much made up for it. Superb.

miss_diane, you must have missed those excellent movie stills skanky had posted a while back. They were all in colour. Whether there are definitely B&W sequences I do not know. There is a good chance, given Diane Arbus' photos.

T'is exciting now.

Still, they did censor it in North America by adding those computer generated ghosts to hide some stuff in the party!!!

they did??? I don't remember seeing any ghosts.... I saw some pretty graphic stuff at that party... enough for me to think it should have been X rated lol. that's weird... I don't remember seeing anything like that.

lol.gif You are not supoosed to see them, they are made to look like normal people wearing black and watching. I'll PM you a link with a comparison between R1 (North America) and R2 (Europe) wave.gif

Another bit that is not widely known is that Kubrick originally used some eastern music in this party scene, but it was discovered later to be a sacred music for some Asian religion, so they replaced it with the current music fearing a backlash by the Asian communities. There are rumers that there is only one release worldwide that has the original music, which is the R3 DVD from Korea. But no one was able to confirm this eek.gif
fbi_woman
hmmm somehow I seem to have seen the one without the people in cloaks lol. I don't know how I managed that, but I had definitely already seen the stuff in the link you sent me lol. Thanks though, it was interesting to see how they did that. I probably never would have noticed when I buy mine.
adrian
Just edited my post above and added some more censorship information eek.gif
chattyjaz522
My parents haven't really said much about Nicole's sexuality/nude scenes but they insist that even when it comes out on DVD I have to see it with them and if they think any scene is inappropriate they skip it which sometimes gets me confused about the next scene b/c of what I missed, but they're my parents so I have to listen. I appreciate them trying to protect me against such stuff so I abide.

Isn't Birth rated PG-13??

I finally watched it (thank you Adrian for the yousendit link) - with the speakers ON this time *lol* - and skanky I can report that it is NOT exactly like the AH teaser. That is, the AH teaser was a shortened form of this trailer.

It looks very - erotic. Given the director's previous work, that's no surprise. (Sorry Kensy and all our younger members!)

I love that red dress on her.

Addictive, isn't it? Of course, I can't help feel a bit giddy that we've got a Nicole FILM to talk about again, and that's what's at the top of the board.

We've gone more than one year without any NK film, Bewitched seems like forever. I hope it comes to the London Film Festival so I can see it or else I won't see it till it is released (next year).
kiki
^ yes. it's absolutely torture to not have one film of her open in one year! thank goodness for this. the drought's over lol.gif
Kensy
Yes, even though Bewitched wasn't Nicole's best movie, or one of my favorites, it is still special to me. Around "the Nic & Bewitched era" was when I first took notice of NK, which was when all the Keith & Nic craziness started! And BOY am I glad it did! I have NEVER been the same!!!

Kensy is a Nicole Kidman fan for LIFE! Without a doubt!!!

In fact I tend to devide her films into three tiers;

"A" for stuff I see just to have fun for a couple of hours then I forget about it, this includes the likes of Bewitched, Stepford, Interpreter, Practical Magic etc...

Then there is "B" which are great movies I might re-watch at some point, like Moulin Rouge, Birth, Birthday Girl, To Die For etc...

Finally there is tier "C" which is what I loved her for; perfect movies, deep, complex, world class performance and they leave me thinking for a long time. This tier has Dogville, EWS, Human Stain and The Others eek.gif

As I have every reason to think Fur is a tier "C", I should say "Human Stain seems like forever" happy.gif

QUOTE(Kensy @ Sep 2 2006, 07:44 AM)
My problem is my parents will NOT let me go see it, in ANY way, not even when it is out on DVD.

As most of you know, I became a HUGE Nic fan through Keith 9 months ago. When Keith & Nicole were first spotted out together, 14 months ago, my parents had, I'll put it as nicely as possible...not the warmest feelings about Nicole because of "Eyes Wide Shut" & "Birth"

They knew that if Keith & Nic ever got serious or got married, that I would love Nicole just b/c she makes Keith happy. But they didn't know that I would fall in love with her because of her work as an actress, her personality, and charity work. As much as I try to help my parents "warm up" to Nic, they continue to have, "un-warm" opinions about her and her movies because of the sexuality and nudity in past films.

My dad was telling me the other day that Nicole "better not be in any R rated movies, once she marries Keith, because she shouldn't be doing sexual things, and nudity with other men."

So once they hear about a movie titled "Fur" ( I have hid the movie from them for 9 months) they will have an absolute FIT!!!

I, myself am not mad at Nicole, I do not support her sexual/nudity scenes at all, but that doesn't make me think less of Nicole as a person, like my parents are acting.

I know Keith & Nicole separate their work and their personal/private life. They probably don't think about this situation at all, or they may have discussed it, and worked something out, but either way, my parents will NOT see the "light!"

If you ask me, I think my parents are acting TOTALLY immature!

The DAY I turn 18 (EXACTLY 608 days!!!) I am going to rent "Eyes Wide Shut", "Birth" & "Fur" and it is going to be one of THE BEST days of my life!!!

Love,
Kensy

Oh dear i feel so bad for you. huggle.gif
my parents don't know i've bought The Human Stain lol. They never have really said anything about her nude scenes. In my oppinion it's just part of a story and can be beautiful. I will probably ask my Mum to go see it with me. Is it in an 18 or 15 in England? beatingheart.gif

kiki
i just want to say before i go to bed that i am obsessed with the trailer. i keep playing it over and over. it's one of those films which i personally think i would really like even by just seeing the trailer. so haunting and the actors' seem to have so much control of their performances anc characters. i'm glad she did this.
RedSatinDoll
Is it just me? There's a shot at almost the exact halfway point in the trailer (yes, I've seen it several times, thank you, being the proper "Kidman freak" that I am lol.gif ) when we see her face framed by a circle (what I presume is the peephole in Lionel's door) and that shot reminds me every single time of Audrey Tatou in "Amelie" for reasons I can't begin to explain.

All right, so maybe it is just me. rollin.gif
kiki
^ no no. it has that same quirk (that particular shot) although nicole's has a darker undertone. either way, it's attention-grabbing and very metaphorical, like peeking into one's soul. so, yeah, it's just not you my dear (and not just for noticing that as i'm a nicole freak as well). eek.gif the one where she lies down on the bed (the last shot) reminds me of a wong kar wai shot in 2046 where the character lounges "lazily" evoking such sensuality (whereas nicole's seem to be longing- both such similar shots though personally). now that is probably just me. lol.gif

I haven't seen 2046 - but no, it isn't just you this time either, kiki! "longing" sounds like a very appropriate word for that shot. What is really happening in the context, we shall see.

"Peeking into one's soul" - yes, another excellent description. That's part of what gets me excited about Nicole as an actroess - the willingness to go to those darker places, when so many others before her have settled for so much less. The willingness to feel, to be unlikable and even emotionally messy onscreen - how our culture fears such rawness, such dark places! That may account for part of the discomfort that some critics feel about her. (Just my guess.)
kiki
^ that's actually a very valid point redsatindoll. some people are uncomfortable with that idea. nicole - and obviously all of us here - are not. it's also her subtlety (which some people also don't like- but which i think is harder for an actor to do) in which she conveys those emotions and "dark" moments that really gets me. how she can control it i may never know but i'm glad she's willing to share. so frankly, negative reviews don't matter as much to me (as much as it infuriates me sometimes). rose4.gif
