Now that's more like it!
I confess my own hypocrisy - I'm the first to say "Why do they always put stars' faces front and center on posters, why can't they be more original?" but I've not warmed up at all to that razor/camera image. Interesting - for five seconds, but then? This is far more intriguing, implying Diane's work without literally reproducing it. And it conveys some of the eroticism that I sense from the trailer.
I'm guessing that these photos are from the shoot by Mary Ellen Marks, (I'm sure there are a lot of amazing images from that shoot we will sadly never see), some of which already appeared in Vanity Fair; and need I mention that MEM did some wonderful promo photography for Moulin Rouge?

This is the official poster seeing that it showed up on IMP.
Love the concept here. It's very similar to The Shipping News poster if anyone has seen it, but the way it is set up here is a bit more edgy. LOVE the picture of Nicole and Robert Downey. It looks a bit---dare I say---sexy.

Go ahead Nicole - say it.

Sexy, yes. erotic even. I do recall the shipping news poster, good call (and "sexy" was not it.)

Thanks The Sparkling Diamond

I apologise for using the banned word on my earlier post.
I reason why I don't like the new poster is because it tells me nothing about Diane Arbus or her craft. I'd much prefer the poster on furmovie.com with the razor and camera, which looks original and intriguing.

Really? I actually think the photos on the far left of Downey in the mask and the one with Diane's children echo the eerieness(sp?) of Diane's photos perfectly.

According to Picturehouse, that's the final poster.
Good News. They will be having a sweepstakes on the www.furmovie.com site where a certain number of entrants will win a poster.

I quite agree, NicoleFan17. Shainberg has given his reasons for not using any of Diane's actual images and so forth in interviews and why this is an "imaginary" (metaphorical) biography, so this poster fits nicely - evocative without being derivative or copycat.
I do happen to like the effect of hand-tinting on Nicole's face in the larger picture, but as I happen to be a fan of Victorian photography where hand-tinting was sometimes used, that's just my opinion. (And something I've learned since my sweetie went to art school - color psychologically and physically grabs peoples attention in a way that monochrome does not. I've seen people walk right past a sculpture in a gallery because there was no color to it -they're too busy looking at the paintings, even when the sculpture is a superior work of art.) I noticed in the British poster for Dogville they employed a similar effect - using black and white but tinting Nicole's eye and yes it had the desired effect for me in that I noticed it and remembered it more than I would have without the spot of color. I dare say the same applies here. To each her own.
